Grossman named First Team All-East at NCAA Regionals

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Senior Hallie Grossman wrapped up the EISA carnival season with an eighth-place finish in the women's 15-kilometer classical race and a certificate for earning First Team All-East honors on Saturday at the NCAA East Region Championships and St. Lawrence Carnival.

Grossman (South Burlington, Vt.) finished eighth out of 69 competitors, covering the Mt. Van Hoevenburg 15K course in 54:14.1. The senior captain and soon-to-be four-time NCAA Championship competitor finished among the top eight in all 10 individual carnival races this season. Grossman wins First Team All-East honors as one of the top five performers on the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association circuit this season.

Junior Gracie Wright (Rutland, Vt.) finished 15th in 56:06.3 and sophomore Tara Humphries (North Yarmouth, Maine) came in 22nd in 57:08.2, as the Bates women placed fifth out of 12 teams in the race.

Junior Corky Harrer (Minneapolis, Minn.) led the Bates men's squad in 29th place out of 65 in the 20K classical race, finishing in 1:04:43.2. Sophomore Max Millslagle (Bend, Ore.) was 31st in 1:05:11.0, and first-year Parker McDonald (Wolcott, Colo.) rounded out the team scoring in 42nd (1:06:07.2).

Bates' alpine and Nordic teams combined to place eighth out of 15 teams at the carnival, just 16 points behind seventh-place and host St. Lawrence.

The season continues March 11-14 at the NCAA National Collegiate Skiing Championships, with Grossman assured of her fourth invitation to nationals.

Grossman led the way in eighth place overall as the Bates women's Nordic ski team scored the fourth-most points of 12 squads in the 5K freestyle race of the St. Lawrence Carnival, which doubles this year as the NCAA East Region Skiing Championships.

Grossman (South Burlington, Vt.) was eighth among 69 skiers in a time of 16:32.3. Sophomore Laurel Fiddler (Crowley Lake, Calif.) placed a season-best 16th in 17:00.2, while Humphries took 22nd place in 17:07.6.

McDonald  led the Bates men's squad to eighth place among 12 teams in the men's 10K freestyle race, finishing in a season-best 16th place out of 65 men with a time of 39:32.8. Harrer was 34th in 30:49.1 and Millslagle rounded out the team's scoring in 37th (30:58.2), one-hundredth of a second ahead of sophomore teammate Nathan Moreau (Falmouth, Maine).
