CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The No. 15 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team, fielding first-year players at the top five positions on the ladder, lost to No. 9 Stanford 9-0 and No. 11 Brown 8-1 before rebounding with a 6-3 win over No. 22 Wesleyan over its opening weekend at the Boston Round Robin, hosted by Harvard.

First-year Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czech Republic) played at No. 1 for the Bobcats and opened with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Stanford's Madeleine Gill on Friday night. Alexova earned Bates' lone point in Saturday's loss to Brown, defeating Quincy Beck 3-1, then surrendered a 3-0 decision to Wesleyan's Laila Samy.

Bates had Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) playing at No. 2, Katie Bull (Sudbury, Mass.) at No. 3, Molly Brooks (Charlottesville, Va.) at No. 4 and Natalie Pearson (Ridgewood, N.J.) at No. 5. Both Arjoon and Bull picked up 3-0 wins against their Wesleyan counterparts, Liza Bayless and Bridget Doherty, setting the tone in Bates' victory. 

Two returners to the team, sophomore Blair Weintraub (New York, N.Y.) and senior captain Lauren Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe), won in straight sets at 6 and 7, respectively. A pair of newcomers, first-year Hannah Conner (Groton, Mass.) and sophomore Cata Robert (Greenwich, Conn.), also won in straight sets at 8 and 9 to help clinch Bates' victory.

Bates plays at rival and 18th-ranked Bowdoin on Friday, Dec. 4, at 6pm, before hosting No. 2 Trinity on Saturday, Dec. 5 at noon.
