WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The No. 15 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team nearly pulled off an upset win, but ultimately fell by a 5-4 score at No. 12 Williams on Sunday, finishing the road weekend with a 2-1 mark. Five of the nine matchups were decided in the maximum five games.
Senior
Nessrine Ariffin (Penang, Malaysia), senior
Lesea Bourke (Greenwich, Conn.) and sophomore
Emma Dunn (Bellevue, Wash.) all completed 3-0 weekends with victories on Sunday. It took Ariffin just three games to dispatch Williams' No. 1, Nicole Friedman, 11-2, 11-6, 11-1. Bourke took a 2-0 lead over Nicole Feshbach at No. 3, then saw her Eph opponent tie the match at 2-2 before prevailing 12-10 in the deciding game. Dunn also prevailed by a 3-2 score, at the No. 5 position over Caroline Sawin.
Sophomore
Charlotte Cabot (Dover, Mass.) won 3-2 (11-7, 8-11, 6-11, 11-3, 11-7) at No. 7 over Charlotte Walsh, while Williams won the point in the match's two other 3-2 results: at No. 2, Hayley Parsons edged Bates senior
Myriam Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.) and at No. 6, junior
Lauren Williams (Buluwayo, Zimbabwe) was nipped by Ellen Coombe.
The Bobcats (5-5) will next host Tufts for Senior Night on Tuesday at 5pm.
