MIDWAY, Utah -- Bates junior Hallie Grossman placed a career-best 25th in the women's 15K freestyle race, while senior Jordan Buetow took 37th place in his final race as a Bobcat in the men's 20K freestyle, completing the 2014 NCAA National Collegiate Skiing Championships for the Bates Nordic ski teams.
Grossman (South Woodstock, Vt.) finished the 15-kilometer course at Soldier Hollow Resort in 43:20.8, 12.2 seconds behind Montana State's Kate Backstrum and 20.5 seconds ahead of 26th-place Mackenzie Kanady of Alaska-Anchorage. In Grossman's third NCAA Championship in as many years, the Second Team All-East selection registered the two best NCAA finishes of her career in these championships.
Buetow (Fairbanks, Alaska) completed the 20K in 48:11.8, 38 seconds behind Colorado's Arnaud du Pasquier and 2.6 seconds ahead of Harvard's Christopher Stock, for 37th place among 40 competitors.
Grossman's six points make it a total of seven for the Bobcats, putting Bates in 22nd place out of 23 teams in the final point tally.

Grossman and Buetow placed 30th and 40th in their respective classical technique races on Thursday, the first day of Nordic competition at the 2014 NCAA National Collegiate Skiing Championships.
Grossman raced the 5K women's classical race in 15:09.02, outpacing 31st-place Alice Flanders of Michigan Tech by 3.7 seconds. Alaska-Anchorage's Marine Dusser was 29th at 15:02.5. The result was Grossman's best finish in five career NCAA Championship races to that point.
Buetow, who like Grossman made his third consecutive NCAA Championship appearance, finished the men's 10K classical in 29:39.7.
