Women's squash defeats three straight NESCAC opponents

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The No. 14 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team picked up NESCAC victories over Wesleyan and Hamilton on Sunday to cap a 3-1 opening weekend of play.

Bates (3-1) has won three straight after losing to No. 2 and defending national champion Trinity by a 9-0 score in the season opener on Saturday. The Bobcats rebounded later Saturday afternoon with a 7-2 win over No. 28 Connecticut College at Trinity. Bates made the short trip to Wesleyan on Sunday and defeated the host and 21st-ranked Cardinals 6-3, then wrapped up with perhaps their best match of the weekend in a 7-2 win over No. 16 Hamilton.

Senior captains Myriam Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.) and Lesea Bourke (Greenwich, Conn.) were both 3-1 on the weekend at the second and third positions on the ladder, respectively, to lead the Bobcats. Bates was also a collective 9-3 at the fifth, sixth and seventh spots, with sophomore Emma Dunn (Bellevue, Wash.) at No. 5, junior Lauren Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) at No. 6 and sophomore Charlotte Cabot (Dover, Mass.) at No. 7 each going 3-1.

The Bobcats will face a stiff test in their home opener this Saturday, Nov. 22, when they host No. 3 Penn at 11am.
