LEWISTON, Maine – Seniors
Ashley Brooks,
Rakey Drammeh, and
Samantha Matos each won in her final home match as Bates College women's squash beat Colby College, 9-0, on Wednesday night at the Bates Squash Center on the team's Senior Night.
The 12th-ranked Bobcats (9-5) swept all nine matches in straight sets against the 24th-ranked Mules (4-12).
Brooks (Roslindale, Mass.) picked up her victory at the No. 6 spot, Drammeh (New York, N.Y.), the team's captain, won at No. 5, and Matos (New York, N.Y.) snagged a victory in the No. 3 position.
At the top of the ladder junior Nessrine Ariffin (Penang, Malaysia) grabbed a win at the No. 1 spot, and classmate Myriam Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.) followed suit in the No. 2 position. Another junior, Chloe Mitchell (Chatham, N.J.), rounded out the top two thirds of the order with a triumph at the No. 4 spot.
Sophomore Lauren Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) and first-years Charlotte Cabot (Dover, Mass.) and Emma Dunn (Bellevue, Wash.) completed the sweep with wins on court Nos. 7-9 respectively.
Next, second-seeded Bates opens NESCAC Championship play at Hamilton College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against the winner of seventh-seeded Bowdoin and 10th-seeded Tufts.
