LEWISTON, Maine -- No. 10 nationally ranked Brown University edged the No. 11 Bates women's squash team 5-4 on Friday at the Bates Squash Center, suffering their first loss in six matches.
Brown (5-2) received wins at the 2, 4, 6, 7 and 8 positions to leave Lewiston with the win over its annually close rival.
Junior Nessrine Ariffin (Penang, Malaysia) and first-year Charlotte Cabot (Dover, Mass.) won by 3-0 scores at the first and ninth positions on the ladder, respectively, for the Bobcats (5-2). Senior Samantha Matos (New York, N.Y.) defeated Hanna Hay-Smith 3-2 at 3, and junior Chloe Mitchell (Chatham, N.J.) put away Kathern Elliot-Moskowa 3-1 after succumbing by a 20-18 score in the first set.
The Bobcats will travel to Amherst, Mass., on Saturday to take on the host Lord Jeffs at 5pm and George Washington at 2pm.
