LEWISTON, Maine -- No. 2 nationally ranked Trinity College won every set in a 9-0 defeat of the 10th-ranked Bates College women's squash team in both squads' season openers on Saturday at the Bates Squash Center.
Trinity (1-0), the 2012-13 national runners-up, was challenged at several spots in the lineup despite the final score.Â
Bates (0-1) junior one-time All-American Nessrine Ariffin (Penang, Malaysia) played Trinity senior Catalina Pelaez close in all three sets for a 11-7, 11-9, 11-9 loss at the No. 1 position in the lineup. First-year Charlotte Cabot (Dover, Mass.) and sophomore Lauren Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) both pushed their Bantam opponents into extra points in sets at the seventh and eighth positions, respectively. Junior Myriam Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.), senior captain Rakey Drammeh (New York, N.Y.) and junior Lesea Bourke (Greenwich, Conn.) all played tough as well, at positions 2, 4 and 5, respectively.
Bates plays at NESCAC rival Bowdoin on Dec. 6 at 5pm.
