HARTFORD, Conn. -- After avenging their January loss to Amherst in a big way on Saturday morning, defeating the Lord Jeffs 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Women's Squash Championship at Trinity College, the Bates women's squash team fell 8-1 to top seed Trinity in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon.
The fifth-seeded Bobcats (12-9) will play the tournament's second seed, Williams, on Sunday at 12 p.m. at Trinity to determine third and fourth places in the conference.
Fourth-seeded Amherst dropped to 12-6 to face Bowdoin in the consolation round.
Winning points for Bates in the win over Amherst were sophomore Cheri-Ann Parris (St. Philip, Barbados) at the No. 1 position on the ladder, followed by three rookies and two senior captains: first-year Samantha Matos (New York, N.Y.) at No. 5, senior Stephanie Cabot (Dover, Mass.) at No. 6, first-year Rakey Drammeh (New York, N.Y.) at No. 7, senior Anna Hogeland (Williamstown, Mass.) at No. 8 and first-year Jane Mayer (Bronxville, N.Y.) at No. 9.
Hogeland scored the lone point for the Bobcats against the nationally third-ranked Bantams, with a 3-1 win over Sky Livingstone at No. 8.
On Jan. 15 Amherst upset Bates 6-3 at Amherst and moved ahead of the Bobcats in the national rankings. Currently Bates is ranked 13th in the country, Amherst 12th.
