FARMINGTON, Maine -- The Bates College baseball team swept the University of Maine at Farmington in a doubleheader with 15-1, 5-4 wins in non-conference action today at Hippach Field.

The Bobcats (10-19) are slated to travel to the University of Maine at Presque Isle for a twinbill Wednesday with the first pitch tabbed for noon, in what will be the Owls' first home games since 2005.

The Beavers (4-22) hold the fourth seed in the upcoming NAC tournament in Glens Falls, N.Y.

In the opener, Bates plated six runs in the opening frame and tacked on five more in the fourth on its way to a 15-1 rout.

Brian Jenkins smacked a solo home run for the Beavers, while Mitch Bean and Josh Garneau each doubled.

First-year Mike Ciummei (Acton, Mass.) singled, homered and drove in four runs for the Bobcats with sophomore Rich Velotta (Fairfield, Conn.) singling twice and driving in four runs and sophomore Gordy Webb (Hampden, Maine) singling and doubling with three RBIs. Sophomores Noah Burke (Appleton, Maine) and Alex Gallant (Bangor, Maine) each clubbed solo home runs -- Burke's first of his career and Gallant's second -- with sophomore Chris Burke (Andover, Mass.) rapping a single and two doubles.

First-year Karl Alexander (Cambridge, Mass.) hurled a complete game in the win with a walk and nine strikeouts in a five-hitter.

Matt Levine dropped the decision with 10 hits allowed, two walks and a strikeout over three innings.

In the second game, junior Tom Beaton (West Newbury, Mass.) singled home senior Tyler Maxwell (Coventry, Vt.) in the sixth inning to lift Bates to a 5-4 win.

Garneau singled, doubled twice and drove in a run for Farmington with Matt Judkins singling, doubling and driving in run.

Beaton finished with a three-hit day with Ciummei and senior Dave Farrell (Chatham, Mass.) each singling and doubling.

Senior Chuck Murphy-Romboletti (Holyoke, Mass.) grabbed the win with two outs in relief. Sophomore Paul Chiampa (Bryantville, Mass.) worked an inning for the save.
