LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 26-ranked University of Southern Maine baseball team won 19-13 at Bates College Tuesday at Leahey Field in a hitfest for both teams.

Bates (3-15) collected 19 hits off of four Huskies pitchers, one shy of the Bobcats' season high total, while the Huskies rapped out 18 hits against five Bobcat pitchers, including home runs by Ryan Bourque (Sanford, Maine), his team-high fifth, and Josh Stowell (Portland, Maine), his first.

USM (19-7) won for the 10th time in its past 11 games.

Bates juniors Brian Mahoney (Sudbury, Mass.), who was 4-for-6 with two runs and two RBIs, and Brian Buckley (Andover, Mass.), who was 4-for-5 with two runs and a home run, his second of the year, led the hit parade for Bates. First-year Josh Linscott (Portland, Maine) went 3-for-5, scoring three times and driving in a pair of runs.

Bates will host Bowdoin on Friday in the first of a three-game home-and-home series with the Polar Bears.

USM took leads of 5-1 and 11-6, but Bates wouldn't go away. The Bobcats scored in five straight innings, and answered the Huskies' four-run sixth inning with four of their own in the sixth to close the gap to 11-10, where the score stayed until the eighth. The Huskies plated three runs in the eighth and added five more in the ninth to put the game away.

Huskies reliever Andrew Stacy (Denmark, Maine) earned the win, allowing one run over 1 1/3 innings, to raise his record to 3-0. Stacy ran into trouble starting the eighth, as Bates loaded the bases with three straight singles to start the inning. Huskies reliever Pat Foley (Norwood, Mass.) came on to induce a run-scoring double play and an inning-ending groundout. Stacy allowed the Bobcats two more runs in the ninth but earned his third save this season.

Bates junior righthander Sean VanderVliet (Meriden, N.H.) took the loss, going 3 1/3 innings in relief and allowing six runs.

USM junior Eddie Skeffington (Everett, Mass.) and Stacy each drove home four runs for the Huskies, while Stacy, first-year Josh Mackey (Danvers, Mass.), senior Max Arsenault (Boothbay, Maine) and first-year Collin Henry (Penobscot, Maine) all collected three hits, including two doubles for Arsenault.
