Bates women's lacrosse team beaten at Bowdoin, 15-9

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team raced out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back, taking a 15-9 win over Bates College in NESCAC action on Wednesday evening.


The Polar Bears (11-3, 5-3 NESCAC) are ranked ninth in the latest national poll and will play for a potential home first-round NESCAC Tournament game in their regular season finale on Saturday at Wesleyan. The Bobcats (5-7, 1-7) have been eliminated from postseason play and will finish their year at home against Connecticut College on Saturday.

Tri-captain Jena Davis sparked Bowdoin's early scoring spree, netting two goals in the opening six-goal run. Kate Donoghue and Taylor White both added a pair of tallies later in the period as Bowdoin led 10-4 at intermission. White opened the second half with back-to-back scores that pushed the Polar Bear lead to 12-4 as the junior led Bowdoin with four scores on the night. Davis had three goals, while Donoghue and Brooke Nentwig each scored twice.

Bates was led by four scores from senior Shannon Tully (Needham, Mass.) and three goals from sophomore Molly Wagner (Longmeadow, Mass.).

Stephanie Collins-Finn made 10 saves in goal for Bowdoin, while sophomore Katie Nickerson (Windham, N.H.) stopped eight shots for the Bobcats.
