NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Bates College became the last NESCAC men's lacrosse team to fall from the ranks of the unbeaten on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 13-7 decision on the road against Connecticut College. The Camels scored five straight goals in a 12-minute stretch of the second and third quarters to break a 4-4 tie and end the Bobcats' nine-game unbeaten streak.

Craig Audin (Sudbury, Mass.) and Jesse Stevenson (Marshfield, Mass.) scored four goals apiece to lead the Camels and Matt Flanigan (Summit, N.J.) dished out five assists to key an offensive outburst against one of the stingiest defenses in the nation. Bates came into the weekend ranked third in Division III in scoring defense, surrendering only 5.33 goals per game, but the Camels managed 38 shots in the victory.

A Bates turnover in their own defensive half led to a Conn. College goal with just twelve seconds left in the first half and gave the home team a 6-4 lead at intermission.  With less than three minutes gone in the second half, Stevenson’s second strike of the half made it 9-4 in favor of the Camels, and the home team kept the pressure on the rest of the way to deny the Bobcats a comeback opportunity.

Matt Erisman (Nantucket, Mass.) and Brent Morin (Hanover, N.H.) scored two goals each to pace the Bobcat attack.  Morin also had an assist and Wes Couture (South Hadley, Mass.) set up two goals and added a strike of his own for Bates, who were outshot 38-25.

Paul Kazarian (Providence, R.I) stopped 10 shots and was beaten as many times for Bates, who fell to 9-1 on the year and dropped into a three-way tie atop the NESCAC at 5-1 along with Wesleyan and Middlebury.  Peter Boston (Acton, Mass.) finished the game in goal for the Bobcats, stopping one shot in the final nine minutes of action. 

Randall Morrison (Erdenheim, Pa.) made six saves in the victory for the Camels, who are now 5-5 on the year, 2-3 in the NESCAC.

Bates will host Tufts next Saturday at 3 p.m.
