Men's Nordic team leads Bates at Williams College Winter Carnival

Bates senior Seth Hubbard races to a 10th-place finish in the 10K Freestyle race on Friday at Prospect Mountain.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Bates College men's Nordic ski team placed fourth out of 11 teams in the 10K Freestyle race to lead Bates' ski teams at the Williams College Winter Carnival at Prospect Mountain.

Bates was sixth out of 11 teams overall with 555.5 points, behind Williams (575) and ahead of Colby (494).

In the 10K, Bates was led by senior Seth Hubbard (Farmington, Maine), who finished 10th out of 62 skiers in 22:58.0. First-year Sylvan Ellefson (Vail, Colo.) was close behind in 13th, followed by senior Dan Johnson in 28th, sophomore Matt Dunlap in 36th and junior Kyle Rogers in 39th.

Ellefson, Johnson and Hubbard teamed up to take fifth place in the 3x4 freestyle relay on Saturday; Dunlap, Rogers and first-year Connor Cushman were 13th.

On the women's side, junior Kaitlyn McElroy was Bates' top finisher in the 10K Freestyle race on Friday, coming in 16th overall out of 54 racers in 27:16.1. First-year Haleigh Armstrong was 33rd, followed by Emily Poole in 36th and Alissa Praggastis in 40th.

McElroy, Armstrong and Poole were 10th in the 3x4 freestyle relay, while the Bates trio of Lauren Jacobs, Praggastis and Nicole Ritchie came in 12th.

Bates competes at the Middlebury College Winter Carnival next weekend.
