WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Senior Rob Stockwell (Temple, N.H.) had his second straight double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds as the Bates College men's basketball team routed Southern Vermont College 77-51 Saturday at the Williams College Invitational.
Bates (2-0) has won, or gone undefeated in, nine consecutive invitational tournaments.
Stockwell vaulted from 19th to 15th on Bates' all-time scoring list in the game, with 1,151 career points.
Senior Zak Ray (Bangor, Maine) also altered the Bates record books. His six steals gave him 186 in his career, passing the all-time career record of 184 held by Sean McDonagh '92. The six steals matched his career high and came within one of tying the Bates single-game record. Ray added four points and seven assists.
The Mountaineers (0-2), who were edged by Williams 81-79 on Friday, had the game tied at 2-2 but were held at bay for the rest of the game, as the Bobcats shot 51.4 percent in the first half and built up an 18-point lead before halftime, then led by as many as 31 points in the second half.
Bates first-year guard Chris Wilson (Brewer, Maine) also had a solid afternoon, tallying nine points and seven assists, earning All-Tournament honors along with Stockwell.
Albrey Kirkland and Nick Harrington lead all Southern Vermont scorers with 11 points each.
Seniors Sam Taylor (Redwood City, Calif.) and Damon McGinn (Thetford, Vt.) each contributed six points and five rebounds for the Bobcats, who outrebounded the Mountaineers 45-37 and held them to 32.7 percent shooting from the floor. Bates won the turnover battle 24-12.
Bates will host the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
