Senior football captain Shawn Doherty ran for 127 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries in Bates’ 38-21 win over Hamilton on Saturday to earn Bobcat of the Week honors for the week of Nov. 4-10.

In his final game in a Bates uniform, the Mansfield, Mass., native gained a game-high 215 all-purpose yards as the Bobcats finished the season 4-4 giving the team back-to-back campaigns at .500 or better for the first time since 1981-82. The Bobcats also took home a share of the CBB (Colby-Bates-Bowdoin) title due to their victory over Bowdoin on Nov. 2.

Against the Continentals, Doherty also returned two kick offs for 82 yards including a season-long 61-yard return and caught one pass for six yards. His rushing touchdown came on a 76-yard scamper in the first quarter to give the Bobcats a 21-0 lead.

On the season, the slotback led the NESCAC in all-purpose yards per game (156.6) and ranked eighth in the conference in rushing yards per game (67.5). He totaled 540 rushing yards, 597 kick return yards, and 116 receiving yards on the year.
