INDIVIDUAL FITNESS

Athletics encourages all members of the campus and greater community to take part in their health and well-being. The recreation department has designed signs that are placed around the fitness center in order to promote individuals to use different equipment. This program is for any level of experience, individuals can locate these signs within the Fitness Center and scan the QR code to access different exercises and stretches to implement into their workout.

FEM FOLX FITNESS

No matter what gender you identify as or your experience level, lifting weights can be an intimidating experience. A fitness center can feel overcrowded and overwhelming for those both exploring their fitness goals for the first time and for people with lifting experience. Therefore, we plan to continue to offer "Fem Folx Fitness Night." This event will help students discover their individual fitness goals by learning how to perform weightlifting exercises and properly use equipment in the weight room while surrounded by supportive peers not looking to judge. We hope this event will contribute to the continual progress the College, Student Government, and Athletics have made toward establishing a welcoming, inclusive and wellness-centered campus.

GROUP FITNESS

Athletics has partnered with the B-Well Program to offer group fitness classes for students, faculty, and staff.  Enjoy a variety of workouts that offer an exciting way to get in shape, relax, and stay motivated while reaching your fitness goals. The Bates community will have access to at least 15 weekly, live virtual fitness classes through Zoom including high intensity interval training, yoga, BARRE, and more. Recordings of the virtual classes will also be available.

OUTDOOR FITNESS & RECREATION

It is important to remain active and exercise especially with limitations on the indoor athletic facilities and programs. Bates Athletics has compiled a list of alternate options to substitute for our traditional offerings. This includes walking and running trails throughout campus, including the Bobcat Fitness Trail, and access to other local and virtual outdoor resources. As the semester continues be on the lookout for additional suggestions.

B-WELL PROGRAM

The B Well program was created in 2007 and strives to provide encouragement, motivation and education for the Bates community.  B Well offers free fitness classes such as yoga, fitness boot camps, aquatic classes and more. The program also facilitates campus wide activity challenges, free health coaching, tobacco cessation opportunities, care for the caregiver, mindfulness and resilience training.  Additionally, B Well strives to promote inclusion to our diverse community, social connection and meaning.
