Facility Operations Attendant
Facility Operations Attendants are the first face you see when entering Merrill Gym, Alumni Gym, and Underhill Arena at their respective welcome desks. Facility Operations Attendants provide excellent customer service to our members and guests regarding information about athletic and recreation programs, services, and facilities. Facility Operations Attendants also monitor facility access control in order to provide a safe environment for the members of the Bates community. There is no prior experience required to apply for this position.
Fitness Center Attendant
Fitness Center Attendants are responsible for the overall safety, cleanliness, and customer service of the Davis Fitness Center in Underhill Arena. Fitness Attendants provide fitness center orientation tours, assist with use of the equipment, and monitor the daily operations of the campus fitness facility. There is no prior experience required to apply for this position.
Lifeguard
The Lifeguard position presides over the Tarbell Pool located in Merrill Gymnasium. They are responsible for ensuring the safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the deck, and the surrounding areas. This includes testing and recording pool chemistry, scanning and patrolling pool areas, and providing daily maintenance and upkeep of pool facilities. Lifeguards are essential parts of providing a safe and positive atmosphere for members and guests within the aquatic facilities through enforcing facility and program policies.
Lifeguards are required to be certified and maintain skills in American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Certification. Previous lifeguard experience is preferred.
Athletic Contest Operations
The Contest Operations Assistant supports the game day operations and experience for intercollegiate athletic events. Responsibilities include working athletic contests in various positions such as field set-up/breakdown, game flow, scoreboards, clock, sidelines, and other game operations positions based on the sport. Hours vary based on availability, game schedules and game times. There is no prior experience required to apply for this position.
Intramural Sports Official
Intramural Sports Officials are in charge of officiating Intramural Sports contests. They must maintain a high sense of integrity and consistency while enforcing the rules and guidelines of the specific sport. There is no prior experience required to apply for this position, although experience playing the specific sport is preferred.
Intramural Sports Supervisor
The Intramural Sports Supervisor supervises the daily operations of Intramural Sports, including student intramural officials and participants. They are responsible for providing customer service of all Intramural Sports-related inquiries while maintaining excellent customer service and enforcing guidelines and procedures. Experience as an intramural official is preferred.
Sports Medicine Student Aide
The Sports Medicine Student Aide assists the Certified Athletic Trainers with daily tasks including providing additional eyes and ears for ATCs during practices while helping perform cleaning, inventory, along with preparation for hydration and ice for the student-athletes. Students are required to be certified in CPR/First Aid and may have to provide first responder support to an ATC.
Equipment Operations Assistant

The Equipment Operations Assistant supports the Athletic Equipment Operations staff and is directly responsible for daily operations that include performing laundry services, maintaining inventory, equipment distribution, and assisting with practice and event set-up.
Facility Manager
The Facility Manager is the "manager-on-duty" and is responsible for the daily operations of the athletic facilities. They must provide exceptional customer service and be a resource for guests and other student employees. Facility Managers serve as a primary responder for emergencies and risk management issues while effectively creating a fun and safe environment for the Bates Community. Must be certified in American Red Cross CPR/AED, First Aid or be willing to attain one within the first 30 days. This position is available only for current student-employees within the Athletic Department.
