Bates Athletics facilities include one of the most historic gyms in the country in Alumni Gym and a multi-purpose indoor facility with nearly 27,000 square feet in the Gray Athletic Building. Merrill Gym is home to the Walt Slovenski Track, a 200-meter, six-lane track that includes a throwing circle, four tennis courts, as well as Tarbell Pool, the golf team's "sim" room and recently renovated sports medicine spaces. Underhill Arena features a 200-foot by 85-foot ice surface which is transformed into a modular turf system in the fall and spring, which is the first of its kind at a NESCAC school. Underhill is also home to the Davis Fitness Center.
The Bobcats' field spaces include Campus Avenue Turf Field, which was upgraded in 2016 to the same turf used by the Field Hockey World Cup, the first of its kind in the United States, Leahey Field and Lafayette Street Field, the baseball and softball fields, as well as, Russell Street Field, which was upgraded with a new pitch in 2019. The Wallach Tennis Center boasts eight state-of-the-art courts with the same surface as the US Open. The Traquina Boathouse is located in Greene, Maine and was completed in 2016. It was fully donor-funded by 50 Bates families who collectively contributed more than 2.7 million dollars as part of the Bates Campaign’s goal to catalyze student success.
