MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- A trio of Bobcats tied for 36th place in a field of 104 golfers as Bates men's golf finished 11th out of 20 teams at the Duke Nelson Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at Ralph Myhre Golf Course. 

Junior Zach Lowe (Tallahassee, Fla.), senior captain Charlie Weinman (Rye, N.Y.), and sophomore Ethan Hale (Lunenburg, Mass.) all finished at 13 over par for the tournament. Lowe and Weinman both shot rounds of 77 and 78, while Hale had the lowest round of the tournament, firing a 76 on Saturday before shooting a 79 on Sunday. As a team, Bates was consistent, shooting 312 in the first round followed by a 313 in the second round. Their total score of 625 was just one stroke back of Trinity, two strokes back of Williams and five strokes back of St. Lawrence. Host Middlebury won the tournament with a score of 594. The Bobcats finished one stroke ahead of Hamilton and 10 strokes ahead of Colby. 

Junior Stanley Viny (Rutland, Ohio) and first-year Kyle Harsh (Lewiston, Maine) also competed at the tournament for the Bobcats, with Viny improving by three strokes from round one (82) to round two (79) and Harsh improving by six strokes. The rookie bounced back from an 84 on Saturday to shoot a 78 on Sunday. Viny tied for 67th and Harsh tied for 73rd.

Bates is back in action this Saturday and Sunday when the Bobcats head to Taconic Golf Club to compete in the Williams Fall Invitational.
