WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Bates men's golf team competed in their second tournament of the fall this weekend, tying for 15th place out of 17 schools at the Williams Fall Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at Taconic Golf Club.

The Bobcats played 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday. 

Sophomore Ethan Hale (Lunenburg, Mass.) led they way for Bates, tying for 46th place out of 89 competitors in the field. He birdied a pair of holes in the first round on Saturday, but his low round was his second 18 holes of the day when he fired a 76, notching a birdie on hole one and 11 pars.

Overall, Hale finished at 20 over par, just four strokes back of a top-30 finish.

Senior captain Charlie Weinman (Rye, N.Y.) tied for 59th in the field, three strokes back of Hale. Weinman recorded the lowest round of the tournament for the Bobcats, shooting a 75 in Saturday's first round. He recorded three birdies on his way to a 75.

Overall, the five Bates men's golfers combined to shoot 90 over par, tied with St. John Fisher and 16 strokes ahead of NESCAC rival Wesleyan.

The Bobcats are back in action next Saturday and Sunday when they compete in the Bowdoin Invitational, being held at Brunswick Golf Club.
