LEWISTON, Maine – Bates women's lacrosse closed out its regular season with a 14–10 loss to in-state rival Colby on Wednesday night. The Bobcats, with an overall record of 7-8 (3–7 NESCAC), now await their seeding for the upcoming NESCAC Championship Tournament.
Sophomore Haley Wines opened the scoring early in the first quarter, finding the back of the net at the 13:46 mark. Colby evened things up midway through the frame, but senior Caroline Keating responded with a goal at 1:58 to put Bates back in front. The Mules answered once more in the final seconds of the quarter, sending the teams into the second tied 2–2.
Junior Grace Cassin gave Bates the edge to start the second quarter, but Colby again had an answer to knot the score at 3–3. The Bobcats regained momentum with back-to-back goals from seniors Lauren Wong and Caroline Keating, taking a 5–3 lead. Colby closed the half on a 4–0 run, however, heading into the break with a 7–5 advantage they would not relinquish.
Bates netted five goals in the second half, with Laci Raveis scoring twice, while Samantha Collins, Cassin and Wong also added goals. Colby matched with seven tallies over the final two quarters to maintain control.
The Mules held a 30–23 edge in shots, including a 15-13 advantage in shots on goal. First-year goalkeeper Virginia Avery made five saves for the home team, while Bates collected 21 ground balls on the night.
Colby moves to 8-5 (4-5 NESCAC) on the season.
