LEWISTON, Maine -- A trio of Bobcats have been recognized for their performances this year by the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Senior captain
Elsa Daulerio is first team All-State for the third straight season, junior
Sarah Hughes is second team All-State, and first-year
Claire Gaetani is an
All-Rookie team selection.
Daulerio (Harpswell, Maine) is recognized by the MWBCA for a season that saw her lead the Bobcats in scoring (13.9 points per game) and rebounding (6.9 per game), while ranking seventh in all of NCAA Division III in blocked shots with 77. Earlier, she was named just the third Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-American in Bates history while earning second team All-America honors from D3hoops.com. Daulerio was also the NESCAC Player of the Year and the conference's Defensive Player of the Year.
Hughes (Rumson, N.J.) picks up second team All-State honors, impressing when it mattered the most with her season-high 24 points in the NESCAC championship game against fellow Maine foe Bowdoin, as the Bobcats captured the conference title for the second time in program history. A D3hoops.com first team All-Region, first team All-NESCAC, and second team All-New England selection, Hughes averaged 11 points per game while shooting a career and team-best .473 from the floor.
Gaetani (Old Town, Maine) is in good company as an MWBCA All-Rookie team selection, as both Daulerio and Hughes earned that honor when they were first-years for Bates. She shot over 40 percent from the floor this year while averaging four points per game, recording 19 steals, and dishing out 24 assists. Her best game of the season came in the NESCAC semifinal win over Amherst, when Gaetani poured in 17 points on 5-8 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds.
The Bobcats finished a combined 8-2 against teams from Maine, including an overtime win over the University of Southern Maine and the NESCAC championship game win over Bowdoin.
