HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates women's basketball junior guard Sarah Hughes is a repeat selection as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week after a dominating two days at the NESCAC tournament over the weekend that propelled the Bobcats to the second conference championship in program history. 

For her efforts, Hughes (Rumson, N.J.) was also named the New England Women's Basketball Association Player of the Week.

Hughes refused to lose, tallying 21 points on 7-12 shooting and grabbing eight rebounds Saturday in an 80-68 win over Amherst in the NESCAC semifinal.

She followed that up with a season and game-high 24 points on 7-9 shooting, securing seven rebounds and recording two steals in Sunday's 61-56 victory over Bowdoin in the NESCAC championship game.

Hughes matched her season-high with four made three-pointers in five attempts as the Bobcats shot 60 percent from long range in the game.

On the season, Hughes is averaging 11 points per game, good for second on the team. She is also shooting .483 from the field, tops on the Bobcats and fifth-best in the NESCAC. Hughes can dish it as well, as she is tied for sixth in the conference in assists per game. 

This marks the third time this season that Hughes has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week.

The Bates women's basketball team is currently ranked 14th in the latest NPI rankings, which are used to determine the 64-team bracket for the upcoming NCAA Division III tournament. Bates will find out their first-round opponent Monday at 2:30 p.m. when the Selection Show airs live on ncaa.com.
