Sarah Palmer broke the school record in the 50-yard breaststroke and went on to earn All-NESCAC honors in the event, highlighting Friday's action at the NESCAC Championships for the Bates women's swimming and diving team.
NESCAC Championships Day 2 Highlights
- Palmer (Brunswick, Maine) raced to the finish in the morning prelims in 28.80 seconds, breaking the previous Bates record in the 50-yard breaststroke of 28.81 seconds, which was held by Abigail Gibbons '23 and set in 2022. Then Palmer took third in the championship final in 28.84 seconds, good for the first individual All-NESCAC honors of her career.
- Sophomore Elena Trundy (Bath, Maine) placed 15th overall in the 50 breast, touching the wall in the consolation final in 30.35 seconds.
- First-year Lily Dunn (New Canaan, Conn.) placed second in the consolation final of the 50-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 25.47 seconds. Dunn also won the preconsolation final of the 50-yard backstroke in 26.90 seconds.
- Junior Cora Zuwallack (East Falmouth, Mass.) grabbed 16th in the 500-yard freestyle, recording a prelims time of 5:08.62 and a finals time of 5:10.37.
- Sophomore Kendall Keshen (Santa Barbara, Calif.) won the preconsolation final of the 200-yard IM in 2:09.35.
- The 400-yard medley relay team of sophomore Erin Barisonek (New Vernon, N.J.), Palmer, senior Emma Burke (New Hartford, N.Y.), and sophomore Taylor Rolefson (Piedmont, Calif.) took seventh in 3:51.14.Â
As a team, the Bobcats have scored 276 points so far at NESCACs. Bates is in ninth place but sits within striking distance of both Wesleyan (302.5 points) and Bowdoin (309 points). The NESCAC Championships resume Saturday at 10 a.m., with finals at 5:45 p.m.
