What does leadership mean to you?
To me, leadership is taking on the role of lifting up others and motivating everyone to do their best even when it gets hard.

What experience—big or small—has made a surprising impact on you?
Having such motivating and determined coaches has made such a big impact on my athletic journey and progress.

What’s a failure or setback that taught you something valuable?
In my sophomore year of high school I herniated two discs in my lower back and it took me out of swimming for a while. The journey of getting back into my sport, while also trying to ensure my recovery, taught me the importance of trusting the process and taking it slow, even when I don’t want to.

What’s a value or principle you try to live by?
I read this saying in a book by Malcom Gladwell which said “No one who can rise before dawn three hundred sixty days a year fails to make his family rich”. To me this quote signifies that no one who is working hard and determined will fail to perform and have success in their sport. If you put in the work and show up for yourself you won’t fail when the time comes to rely on your training.

What’s something about you that might surprise people?
I have gotten surprisingly good at yoga.
