MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Bates women's swimming and diving team opened the NESCAC Championships by competing in the 800-yard freestyle relay Thursday night at Webster Family Natatorium on the campus of Wesleyan University.
The 'A' team of junior
Cora Zuwallack (East Falmouth, Mass.), first-year
Katherine Reed (Wenham, Mass.), senior
McKayla Kendall (Bangor, Maine), and senior captain
Lianna Rosman (Bethesda, Md.) touched the wall in 7:42.27, beating their seed time by nearly 11 seconds. The Bobcats earned 44 points for their eighth-place showing.
Meanwhile, the 'B' team of senior
Emma Burke (New Hartford, N.Y.), first-year
Amelia Tovey (Sevenoaks, England), senior captain
Lily Barisonek (New Vernon, N.J.), and junior
Soph Clausman (Edina, Minn.) raced to the finish in 7:50.54, good for 18th place out of 22 teams and 12 points. They beat their seed time by eight seconds.
Combined, the Bobcats scored 56 points, good for 8th out of 11 schools. Bates is currently only six points out of fifth place.
The first full day of the NESCAC Championships is Friday, with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
