LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates women's indoor track and field team turned in a dominating performance on Friday and Saturday, scoring 320.5 points to capture first place out of 10 schools in the Bates Invitational & Multi, held per usual at the Walt Slovenski Track in Merrill Gymnasium.
Bates finished well-ahead of their next-closest competitor, as runner-up University of Southern Maine scored 165 points.
Meet Highlights
- On Friday, sophomore Juno Rogers (Decatur, Ga.) took second in the pentathlon, scoring a career-best 3,057 points. That performance is good for a tie for fifth on the Bates top-10 all-time performance list. Rogers was the runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.40 seconds, enough for a tie for eighth all-time at Bates. Rogers was third in the 800 meters in a personal-record time of 2:41.38 and third in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 30-6.25 (9.30m).
- Sophomore Graca Bila (Westbrook, Maine) surged up the Bates top-10 all-time performance list in the indoor triple jump, leaping from 10th to 2nd in program history with her personal-best mark of 37-5.25 (11.41m). She trails just the great Sally Ceesay '18, who holds the program record at 40-04 (12.29m).
- The Bobcats dominated the 20-pound weight throw, taking the top four spots. Senior captain Carli Ciavarelli (Ridgefield, Conn.) won the event with her top effort of 51-2.75 (15.61m). First-year Temperance England (Havertown, Pa.) was the runner-up, with an impressive throw of 51-0.25 (15.55m). That mark came on her final attempt of the day and is good for ninth on the Bates all-time performance list.
- First-year Treasure Hurd (Dallas, Texas) won the 200-meter dash in 27.47 seconds.
- The Bobcats took the top four spots in the 400 meters, with first-year Charlotte Everhart (Vienna, Va.) winning in 1:00.20.
- First-year Hannah Pawlowski (Bow, N.H.) won the 800 meters in 2:19.74.
- The Bobcats grabbed the top three spots in the 1000 meters, with senior captain Evelyn Marchand (Trumbull, Conn.) winning in 3:13.64.
- First-year Evan Register (Durham, N.C.) won the mile in 5:43.86.
- The Bobcats secured the top three spots in the 3,000 meters, with first-year Lily Day (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) winning in 10:57.61.
- Senior captain Moriah Scharn (Dunstable, Mass.) won the 60-meter hurdles in 9.02 seconds.
- Junior Emily Cain (Burien, Wash.), sophomore Dara Salka (Somers, Conn.), junior Anushka Chavda (Nottingham, N.H.), and Scharn teamed up to win the 4x200 relay in 1:51.21.
- The Bobcats took the top two spots in the high jump, with sophomore Campbell Johnson (Naples, Maine) and junior Alannah Ardrey (New York City) both clearing the bar at 4-10.25 (1.48m).
Bates women's indoor track and field is back in action next Saturday at the Gordon Kelly Invitational, hosted by MIT.
