CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine -- Sophomore
Stanley Andrie placed in the top 30 and the Bates men's alpine skiing team took sixth place in the slalom on Friday, highlighting the first day of the Colby Carnival for the Bobcats.
Andrie (Vail, Colo.) turned in the best performance of his collegiate career, recording a two-run time of 1:31.98. His mark was good for 27th place in the field of 93 skiers, as only 36 competitors completed both of their runs in the men's race. Andrie earned 19 carnival points and picked up four NCAA points.
Two other Bobcats also completed both their runs, with senior captain
Georgie Honeybone (Bellevue, Wash.) taking 31st in 1:33.15 and first-year
William Hostetter (Stowe, Vt.) finishing 36th in 1:35.59. Honeybone picked up 17 carnival points and Hostetter earned 15, giving the men's team 51 carnival points in total. The men's team finished ahead of the likes of Williams, Colby, Saint Michael's, Colby-Sawyer, and Harvard.
On the women's side, first-year
Regan Clute (Tahoe City, Calif.) shined in her collegiate debut, taking 16th place out of 83 competitors with her two-run combined time of 1:34.42. Clute picked up 25 carnival points and 15 NCAA points for her efforts. Only 34 skiers in the women's race completed both their runs.
Combined, the Bobcats tallied 76 carnival points, ranking 9th out of 13 EISA schools that have alpine skiing teams. They are just 3.5 points behind eighth-place Saint Michael's and five points ahead of 10th-place Harvard.
Bates competes in the giant slalom on Saturday to wrap up the alpine skiing portion of the Colby Carnival.
