MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- Bates men's swimming and diving senior captain Marrich Somridhivej broke the NESCAC record in the 100-yard breaststroke to lead the Bobcats to victory in a dual meet at Middlebury on Sunday. The men's team outscored the Panthers by a score of 175.5 to 114.5. Meanwhile, the Bates women's team won six events but ultimately fell 160-119 to the No. 23 nationally ranked Panthers.

Men's Highlights

• Somridhivej (South Windsor, Conn.) dominated the 100-yard breaststroke with his winning time of 53.07 as the Bobcats took the top four spots in the race. He breaks his own school record in the event and also surpasses the previous NESCAC record of 53.47 seconds, set by Williams College's Jacob Grover in 2022.
• The Bates 200-yard medley relay team of junior John Weigel (Iowa City, Iowa), Somridhivej, sophomore Nate Oppenheim (Easton, Conn.), and junior Tim Johnson (Brewster, Mass.) emerged victorious with their time of 1:32.54. Not only that, but the 'B' team of senior Kyle Beebe (Chatham, N.J.), senior Kailer Tom (Daly City, Calif.), junior Liam Friedlander (Pittsburgh, Pa.), and sophomore Eyton Ng (Brooklyn, N.Y.) placed second in 1:34.93, ahead of the Middlebury 'A' team.
• Senior captain Max Cory (Dublin, Calif.) won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.13.
• Johnson led a 1-2 Bates finish in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 50.94 seconds. Beebe was the runner-up in 54.52 seconds.
• Friedlander led a 1-2 Bates finish in the 200-yard butterfly, winning in 1:53.98. First-year Will Trotman (Ridgefield, Conn.) was the runner-up in 1:55.32.
• Oppenheim won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.31 seconds.
• Cory led a 1-2-3 Bates finish in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 45.58 seconds. Somridhivej was the runner-up in 45.98 seconds and Weigel took third in 47.18 seconds.
• Johnson won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:53.57.
• Oppenheim led a 1-2 Bates finish in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:05.39 and Tom finished runner-up in 2:11.03.
• Friedlander won the 100-yard butterfly in 51.28 seconds.
• Oppenheim won the 400-yard IM in 4:12.41. 
• Cory, Ng, Weigel, and Somridhivej teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:24.08.

Women's Highlights

• Sophomore Erin Barisonek (New Vernon, N.J.), junior Sarah Palmer (Brunswick, Maine), senior McKayla Kendall (Bangor, Maine), and senior captain Lianna Rosman (Bethesda, Md.) teamed up to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:49.07.
• Barisonek won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.81.
• Palmer won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.67 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:24.31.
• Kendall led a 1-2-3 Bates finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a winning time of 54.59 seconds. Senior Emma Burke (New Hartford, N.Y.) was the runner-up in 55.38 seconds and Rosman took third in 55.91 seconds.
• Sophomore Kendall Keshen (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Palmer, Rosman, and sophomore Taylor Rolefson (Piedmont, Calif.) teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:39.89.

The Bobcats are back in action next Saturday when they visit Tufts for a dual meet that gets underway at 1 p.m.
