BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates men's cross country team coasted to a first-place finish out of 13 teams Saturday at Bowdoin College's Pickard Field XC Course to capture a second-straight Maine State Meet title, and the Bobcats' eighth over the last 11 years.
Bates with 28 points, enjoyed a 20-point cushion over runner-up University of Maine (48 points). The host-Polar Bears finished in third place with 66 points.
The Bobcats posted five Top-10 finishers on the 8K course, with juniors
Nathaniel Aronson (26:13.23) and
Jack Crum (26:15.62) placing at fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Kyle Verner (So.-26:24.30),
JJ Rocha (So.-26:27.32), and
Nikhil Chavda (Jr.-26:28.26) finished in succession for Bates at sixth through eighth place.
Miles Logan (Jr.), competing in his hometown, recorded a 13th-place time of 26:36.12 and
Sam Buckley (Jr.) came in at 18th (26:45.45) to round out the Bobcats' Top-7 overall finishers.
The garnet and white will next compete on Friday with an appearance at Lehigh University's Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa.
