BANGOR, Maine -- Sophomore
Sarah Wicks earned medalist honors and the Bates women's golf team rolled to victory at Saturday's Husson invitational, held at Bangor Municipal Golf Course.
Wicks (Tampa, Fla.) shot a 72, finishing at one over par on the day. She birdied three holes on her way to victory. Wicks finished three strokes ahead of teammate junior
Victoria Adams (Winchester, Mass.), who tied for second place in the field of 30 golfers at four over par.
Bates entered two groups of four in the tournament, and all four women from the winning team finished in the top 10. The victorious team of Wicks, Adams, sophomore
Isabelle Meltzer (Summit, N.J.) and junior captain
Mehar Nijjer (Chandigarh, India) shot a 308 as a group, 47 strokes ahead of runner-up University of New England.
Meltzer shot a 76 to finish in fourth place individually while Niijer took 10th with an 85.
First-year
Emma Lavallee (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) impressed in her collegiate debut, shooting an 82 and tying for seventh place.
This is the second straight year Bates has won the Husson Invitational. Wicks shared medalist honors with Meltzer last season.
The Bobcats are back in action next Saturday and Sunday when they travel to Middlebury, Vt. for the George Phinney Classic.
