Women's outdoor track and field wins Pine Tree Classic

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates women's outdoor track and field team won nine events on their way to capturing first place at the Pine Tree Classic, held Friday and Saturday at Colby College.

The Bobcats tallied 189.33 points as a team, easily out-scoring runner-up Colby (144), the University of Southern Maine (121), and Bowdoin (111), among others.

Meet Highlights
  • Sophomore Alannah Ardrey (New York City) won the high jump with a top clearance of 5-3.25 (1.61m), good for second on the Bates all-time performance list.
  • First-year Campbell Johnson (Naples, Maine) won the long jump with a personal-record leap of 17-6.25 (5.34m), good for fourth on the Bates all-time performance list. First-year Juno Rogers (Decatur, Ga.) was the runner-up with a top effort of 16-9.25 (5.11m).
  • Johnson also took first place in the triple jump with a top mark of 36-1.25 (11.00m), tied for fifth on the Bates all-time performance list. 
  • The Bobcats actually grabbed the top three spots in the triple jump with Ardrey and first-year Graca Bila (Westbrook, Maine) both leaping 35-11.25 (10.95m). Bila is now seventh on the Bates all-time performance list in the event. 
  • First-year Madison Alves (Stoneham, Mass.) won the 100-meter dash in 12.75 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 26.42 seconds. 
  • Senior Isabelle Demeritt (Acton, Mass.) won the 1,500 meters in a personal-record time of 4:43.16.
  • Junior Moriah Scharn (Dunstable, Mass.) won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.15 seconds.
  • First-year Mikayla Ferguson (Winchester, Mass.) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:00.45.
  • Junior captain Carli Ciavarelli (Ridgefield, Conn.) won the hammer throw with a top heave of 152-9 (46.56m).
  • First-year Julia DeGrenier (Wayland, Mass.) took second in the 400-meter hurdles in a personal-record time of 1:10.17.
  • Sophomore Emily Cain (Burien, Wash.), Bila, Scharn, and Alves teamed up to finish third in the 4x100 relay in 49.46 seconds, good for 10th on the Bates all-time performance list.
The Bobcats head to Middletown, Conn. to compete in the NESCAC Championships next Saturday.
