MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Bates men's Distance Medley Relay team moved onto the program's all-time top 10 list and onto the bubble of qualifying for NCAAs with their performance Saturday at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet.
Senior
Aidan Rooney (Bay Shore, N.Y. ), senior captain
Truman Williams (Montclair, N.J.), junior captain
Jackson Monz (Logan, Utah), and junior
Ross Tejeda (Milton, Mass.) teamed up to record a time of 9:58.01, the ninth-fastest DMR in Bates athletics history. The result leaves them 13th in the country, with 12 teams qualifying for NCAAs. However, the possibility of a scratch or two leaves them firmly on the bubble, with selections being finalized Sunday night. At the very least, Williams will be headed to the NCAA Championships in his best event, the 400 meters. Tejeda has an outside chance in the mile, where he ranks 25th in the country. 20 runners compete at the NCAA Championships in any given individual event.
Other standouts on Saturday included senior captain
Kevin O'Connor (Milford, Mass.), who broke seven seconds again in the 60-meter dash, taking sixth place in 6.99 seconds.
Williams won his section in the 400 meters, placing second overall in 48.83 seconds. First-year
Max Hoffman (Wellesley, Mass.) was sixth in the mile with a personal-record time of 4:13.62.
The Bobcats now await the final selections for the NCAA Championships, to be announced Sunday night.
