ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Bates junior captain Carli Ciavarelli took 19th place out of 20 competitors in the 20-pound weight throw Friday afternoon at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Ciavarelli (Ridgefield, Conn.) delivered a throw of 15.32 meters on her first attempt of the day, which turned out to be her best one out of three tries. She beat her seed, as Ciavarelli entered the event ranked 20th in the country following her personal-best toss of 17.42 meters at the Tufts "Last Chance" Meet. 

This was Ciavarelli's first career trip to the NCAA Championships. She wraps up the indoor season ranked third all-time at Bates in the 20-pound weight throw. Ciavarelli and the Bobcats begin the outdoor season a week from Saturday at the Wesleyan Swanson Invite.
