PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The No. 23 Bates men's squash team advanced to the Summers Cup championship round with a 5-4 victory over No. 2 seed and No. 22 ranked St. Lawrence University Saturday afternoon at the College Squash Association Divisional Team Championships.
The win clinches the No. 3 seed Bobcats' first appearance in the Summers Cup (C Division) title match since winning it all in 2016. Bates will take on No. 4 seed and No. 24 ranked Chatham (5-7) after the Cougars upset top-seed and No. 21 ranked Bowdoin, 5-4, in its semifinal contest.
Labeeb Ali, playing at No. 3, enjoyed a come-from-behind win for the garnet and white. The senior, after dropping the first game of his match by a score of 13-11 to the Saints' Harrison Callaway, surged ahead with wins of 11-7, 11-7, and 11-4 for the win.
Ryan Kim and
Maks Celm, competing at positions No. 6 and 8, respectively, also garnered four-game triumphs for Bates.
Dennis Welte (No. 2) and
Ashton Monteiro (No. 4) recorded shutout performances in their respective outings for the Bobcats.
