Ardrey leaps onto Bates top-10 list in high jump at Bobcat Tune-up

LEWISTON, Maine -- Sophomore Alannah Ardrey continued her breakout season and the Bates women's indoor track and field team turned in a number of strong performances Saturday at the Bobcat Tune-up, held at Merrill Gym.

The Bobcats hosted athletes from Bowdoin, Central Maine Community College, Colby, Fitchburg State, Husson, Thomas College, and the University of Maine at Farmington at the non-scoring meet.

Meet Highlights
  • Ardrey (New York City) won the high jump, soaring over the bar at 5-3.25 (1.61m) and landing at ninth on the Bates all-time performance list in the event. She also now ranks 50th in the high jump in all of NCAA Division III this year after her performance on Saturday.
  • The Bobcats took the top two spots in the 20-pound weight throw, as junior captain Carli Ciavarelli (Ridgefield, Conn.) won with a personal-record toss of 55-6.5 (16.93m) and first-year Marie-Ève Maillet (Saint-Antoine, New Brunswick) took second place with a personal-record throw of 42-8.25 (13.01m). Ciavarelli now ranks 21st in NCAA Division III this year in the weight throw.
  • First-year Madison Alves (Stoneham, Mass.) moved up from seventh to sixth on the Bates all-time performance list in the 60-meter dash, racing to the finish in 8.07 seconds.
  • First-year Dara Salka (Somers, Conn.) won the 600 meters in a personal-record time of 1:45.96.
  • Junior captain Lucy Paynter (Hillsborough, Calif.) won the 800 meters in 2:26.80.
  • Sophomore Gwendolyn Anderson (Boone, N.C.) placed second in the mile in a personal-record time of 5:20.27.
  • Senior captain Lily Miller (Claremont, Calif.) won the 3,000 meters in 11:03.08.
  • Junior Moriah Scharn (Dunstable, Mass.) took second in a photo finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.21 seconds.
  • Senior Rosie McKerley (Coventry, Conn.) set a new personal record in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 9-8 (2.95m).
  • Maillet placed second in the shot put with a toss of 36-2 (11.02m).
Bates now prepares to compete in the New England Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, being held this upcoming Friday and Saturday at the TRACK at new balance.
