FRANCONIA, N.H. -- Bates alpine skiing senior captain
Sequoia Anstine started her final carnival in style with a 29th place finish out of 69 competitors in the giant slalom Friday at the UNH Carnival, which doubles this year as the NCAA East Regional Championship.
Anstine (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) raced down the hill at Mittersill Alpine Resort in a two-run combined time of 2:23.58, good for 18 carnival points and two NCAA points. She was joined in the scoring column on the women's side by junior
Anna Davis (Winhall, Vt.), who placed 43rd in 2:28.57, and fellow senior captain
Kenzie Arnott (Stowe, Vt.), who took 51st in 2:30.38.
On the men's side, senior captain
Nic Hotermans (Weston, Mass.) returned from
competing at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships to finish 32nd out of 78 competitors with a two-run combined time of 2:19.09, earning 14 carnival points. Fellow senior
Wyatt Hoffman (Old Lyme, Conn.) also scored points for the Bobcats, placing 43rd with a two-run combined time of 2:20.23, enough for seven carnival points.
Through one day of competition at the UNH Carnival, the Bates alpine and Nordic skiing teams are in 11th place out of 14 schools with a combined 126 carnival points.
The Bobcats conclude their EISA season Saturday when they compete in the slalom.
