ORLANDO, Fla. -- Bates College men's tennis, playing the first of two scheduled matches Thursday, opened the day with a morning contest vs. Division II Saint Leo University at the USTA National Campus.
The Lions, ranked No. 6 in the ITA/NCAA Division II national poll, defeated the Bobcats by a 4-0 score to improve to 4-2 on the spring. The match was played to decision (first to four points).
In doubles action, the Bobcat duo of
Nicolas Ozer and
James Sacco proved triumphant in the No. 3 slot, defeating Saint Leo's Filippo Caporali (Fy.-Cesena, Italy) and Leonardo Pisa (Fy.-Riva di Solto, Bergamo, Italy), 6-3.
The Lions secured the team point, however, with victories in the remaining doubles matches. The match of the day came at the No. 1 position as Saint Leo's Kodai Kato (So.-Ichikawa, Chiba, Japan) and Vincent Thiel (Sr.-Orleans, France) outlasted
Phillippe Kosyagin and
Theo Sardain by a slim score of 7-6 (7-5).
Dylan Andrianaly (Sr.-Cagnessurmer, France) and Enes Kocu (So.-Ankara, Turkey) teamed up for a 6-4 win over
Ben Adey and
Evangelo Kapothanasis.
