HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates junior
John Weigel is the NESCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
Weigel (Iowa City, Iowa) helped the Bates 200-yard freestyle relay team grab first place in an NCAA 'B' Cut time of 1:20.07 at the Maine Collegiate Invite on Friday, breaking their own school record and the meet record as well.
The two-time All-American went on to break four more meet records, winning the the 200-yard IM in 1:52.52, leading off the 200-yard medley relay, which won in an NCAA 'B' Cut time of 1:28.50, winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1:40.49, and helping the 400-yard freestyle relay win in 3:01.00.
Weigel was also the runner-up to teammate
Max Cory '26 (Dublin, Calif.) in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in a career-best time of 44.99 seconds.
This is the first NESCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week award of Weigel's career and the first for Bates since
Tim Johnson '27 (Brewster, Mass.) earned the honor on Jan. 28, 2025.
The Bates swimming and diving teams return to action on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026 when they host Gettysburg at 10 a.m. for a dual meet at Tarbell Pool.
