HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates women's swimming junior
Sarah Palmer and men's swimming senior captain
Marrich Somridhivej are the NESCAC Performers of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
This marks the first time in program history that Bates swimming and diving has swept the NESCAC Performer of the Week awards, which started in 2007-08.
Palmer (Brunswick, Maine) is the first Bates women's swimmer to win NESCAC Performer of the Week since
Sophie Cassily '25 earned the honor in 2024. She had another solid weekend of swimming, going undefeated against both Gettysburg and Middlebury in the breaststroke events. Against Gettysburg, Palmer won the 50-yard breaststroke (29.94) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.75), and versus Middlebury, she posted winning times of 1:05.67 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:24.31 in the 200 breaststroke, all non-suited. Further, she continued to evolve in the sprint freestyle, posting a split of 24.6 seconds in both meets.
Somridhivej (South Windsor, Conn.) had a meet to remember against Middlebury on Sunday. Coming off some heavy training leading into the meet, the senior found a way to swim two lifetime bests. In the 100 freestyle, he posted a time of 45.98 seconds, but even more impressively, he touched the wall in a time of 53.07 seconds in the 100 breaststroke to set a new NESCAC record. Somridhivej also posted splits of 24.08 in the 200 medley relay and 20.5 in the 200 freestyle relay. He is the second Bates men's swimmer this season to win NESCAC Performer of the Week, joining junior
John Weigel (Iowa City, Iowa), who earned the honor on Dec. 9.
The Bobcats are back in the pool this Saturday when they visit Tufts for a dual meet. The action gets underway at 1 p.m.
