LEWISTON, Maine -- No. 22 Bates opened its home slate with a split on Saturday at the Bates Squash Center, rolling past Brown 7–2 before falling 9–0 to national powerhouse No. 2 Trinity in men's squash action.
Dennis Welte, playing at the top spot for the Bobcats, enjoyed a perfect 3-0 triumph ( 11-8, 11-9, 11-4) in the opener vs. Brown while
Ashton Monteiro (11-7, 11-7, 11-7) coasted to a shutout victory at the No. 2 position.
Oscar Hecker (11-3, 11-8, 11-8),
Rodrigo Chon Him (12-10, 11-7, 11-8), and
Tanish Tangri (11-5, 11-4, 11-8) posted perfect 3-0 decisions at positions 3, 4, and 6, respectively.
At No. 5,
Tommy Le held on to defeat Brown's Dawson Lin, 3-1 (11-9, 11-8, 5-11, 11-8). Facing an initial 1-0 deficit at No. 7,
John Kim rallied to secure the next three games of his match to lock down a 3-1 comeback win (9-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-6) vs. Jacob Robinson.
In the nightcap, the Bantams blanked the Bobcats, 9-0, winning all nine matches by a score of 3-0.
