BOSTON and BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates men's track and field team began the indoor season on Saturday with impressive performances at both Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener and Bowdoin's U Bears Invitational, held at BU Track & Tennis Center and Farley Field House, respectively.
Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener Highlights
- First-year Nick Walker (Winchester, Mass.) impressed in his first collegiate 3,000-meter race, crossing the finish line in 8:25.10 to qualify for the New England Indoor Championships and immediately place himself fourth on the Bates all-time performance list in the event. Sophomore JJ Rocha (Cumberland, R.I.) also qualified for New Englands in the 3K with his personal-record time of 8:33.37.
- Sophomore Davis Brown (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) took 10th out of 21 competitors in the 800 meters, qualifying for New Englands with his time of 1:57.25.
- Senior Evan Migdole (Westbrook, Conn.) qualified for New Englands and placed 17th in the 600 meters with his personal-record time of 1:25.08.
U Bears Invitational Highlights
- First-year Winslow Bouverat (Petaluma, Calif.), first-year Briggs Catino (Rye, N.H.), senior captain Carson Moellering (Natick, Mass.), and first-year Liam Walsh (West Hartford, Conn.) teamed up to win the 4x400 relay in 3:33.42.
- Junior Matt Charpentier (York, Maine) led a 1-2 Bates finish in the shot put with a top effort of 50-11.75 (15.54m) and sophomore Ryan Glaser (Rockport, Maine) was the runner-up with a top throw of 44-1.5 (13.45m).
- Sophomore Nick Nicolazzo (Wellesley, Mass.) won the triple jump with a top leap of 41-11.5 (12.79m).
- Glaser led a 1-2-3 Bates finish in the 35-pound weight throw with a personal-record heave of 54-6.75 (16.63m). Charpentier was the runner-up with a personal-record throw of 52-9.5 (16.09m) and sophomore Henry Hood (Hinsdale, N.H.) placed third with a top mark of 46-0 (14.02m).
The Bobcats are back in action after the new year when they head to Middletown, Conn. for the Wesleyan Indoor Invite on Saturday, Jan. 10.
