AMHERST, Mass. -- No. 24 Bates College, playing its fourth match of the week and third in as many days, visited Amherst College Sunday where the Bobcats experienced a 6-3 setback to the No. 16 Mammoths (7-3).
The trio of
Alec Spiro,
Dennis Welte, and
Ashton Monteiro recorded victories for the Bobcats in their respective matches.
Spiro, at the top spot in the Bobcats' lineup, blanked Amherst's Abhimanyu Gupta in three games (13-11, 11-5, 11-8) to earn the senior captain the 3-0 victory. Following at No. 2, Welte secured a 3-0 shutout of his own, dismissing Zi Tao Yu by scores of 11-8, 13-11, 11-3. Monteiro went four games vs. Flynn Venmore at No. 4 and came away victorious with the3-1 win (7-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-9).
The garnet and white (3-6) will next take the court on Sunday, Jan. 26 with a 10:30 a.m. home contest vs. No. 26 Wesleyan.
