WILMINGTON, N.Y. -- Sophomore
Juliette Hoder led the way with an 18th-place showing out of 79 competitors in the women's slalom as the alpine skiing team wrapped up the St. Lawrence Carnival Friday at Whiteface Mountain.
Hoder (Stowe, Vt.) recorded a two-run combined time of 1:39.02, earning 24 carnival points and 13 NCAA points. Her time was less than a second away from a top-10 finish.
First-year
Helena Jankovic (Pittsfield, Mass.) also turned in a strong performance, taking 33rd place with her two-run combined time of 1:41.95, enough for 12 carnival points. Junior
Lindsey Aten (Park City, Utah) rounded out the scoring 37th place with a mark of 1:42.22, earning Bates 10 carnival points.
On the men's side, senior captain
Nic Hotermans (Weston, Mass.) led the way for the Bobcats, taking 35th place out of 85 skiers with his two-run combined time of 1:37.51, earning 15 carnival points. First-year
Zac Bower (Truckee, Calif.) also scored points for Bates with his 42nd place showing, recording a time of 1:39.18 and picking up 11 carnival points.
The St. Lawrence Carnival has concluded for the alpine skiing teams, but Bates won't know their final spot in the standings until Saturday after the Nordic skiing teams wrap up their portion of the carnival.
Bates alpine skiing returns to action on Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1 when the Bobcats compete at the Saint Michael's Carnival, held at Smugglers' Notch.
