LEWISTON, Maine -- No. 24 Bates College, playing its first of three-straight matches this weekend, hosted No. 17 Middlebury Friday as the visiting Panthers (7-2) defeated the Bobcats, 6-3, in men's squash action.

The trio of Alec Spiro, Dennis Welte, and Ashton Monteiro recorded victories for the Bobcats in their respective matches.

Spiro, at the top spot in the Bobcats' lineup, blanked Middlebury's Nathan Feinstein in three games (12-10, 12-8, 12-6) to earn the senior captain the 3-0 victory.  Following at No. 2, Welte secured a 3-0 shutout of his own, dismissing Will Lichstein by scores of 11-9, 11-2, 11-8. Montiero went the distance vs. Gabriel Feinstein and came away victorious with an exhausting 3-2 win (17-15, 10-12, 11-6, 10-12, 14-12) at No. 4.

Bates (3-4) now looks to Saturday when the Bobcats host No. 12 Williams at 2:00 p.m.
