BRUNSWICK, Maine -- First-year
Sean Resnick led the way for the Bobcats as Bates men's golf finished in fifth place out of 21 teams at the Bowdoin Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at Brunswick Golf Club.
Resnick (Walpole, Mass.) started the tournament on hole 14 on Saturday with a par, but he double bogeyed the 15th hole, leaving him two over. He bogeyed 18, but things turned around on his final 13 holes of the day, as Resnick birdied second and fifth holes before bogeys on hole eight and hole 10 left him three over par after round one.
Round two started on hole four with a bogey, but the rookie turned it on after that, tallying three birdies on the day to finish the round at even par and three over for the tournament. That was good for a tie for sixth place out of 112 individuals competing.Â
Senior captains
Will Phillips (Portland, Ore.) and
Freddie Curtis (Harvard, Mass.) were the next two low scorers for the Bobcats, with Phillips shooting seven over for the tournament, good for a tie for 22nd place. Meanwhile, Curtis was nine over par and tied for 35th place when the tournament concluded on Sunday.
Combined, the Bobcats were five strokes better on Sunday than they were on Saturday, finishing the tournament 31 over par as a team, which was third among the eight NESCAC schools competing, ahead of rivals Bowdoin (36 over par) and Colby (71 over par).
The Bobcats will challenge the Polar Bears and Mules again this Saturday at the CBB Championship, hosted by Colby at Waterville Country Club.
