WINDSOR, Conn. -- The Bates men's golf team improved by three strokes from round one to round two, taking eighth place out of 15 schools at the two-day Bill Detrick Invitational, held at Keney Park Golf Course.
The Bobcats combined to shoot 605 as a team, one shot ahead of Wesleyan and Hartford, and just four strokes back of Middlebury.
Sophomore
Henry Ehrlich (Portland, Ore.) paced Bates, shooting 76 on Saturday and 75 on Sunday. He finished tied for 30th out of 81 competitors with a two-day score of 151, 11 over par.
Meanwhile, first-year
Arthur Jenkins (Shreveport, La.) and senior
Paul Detre (Morristown, N.J.) both finished just one stroke back of Ehrlich, tied for 34th overall. Jenkins shot a 77 and a 75, while Detre had the low round of the tournament for Bates, shooting a 74 on Saturday before finishing up with a 78 on Sunday.
Junior
Freddie Curtis (Harvard, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for Bates with a 153, one stroke back of Jenkins and Detre, and tied for 44th overall.
The Bobcats are back in action next weekend when they travel to Ballston Spa, N.Y. for the Tim Brown Invitational.
