PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --
Alec Spiro locked down two wins Saturday in the College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championships, winning the consolation round of the Molloy East bracket to end his junior season on a high note.
Spiro opened the day by going the distance to defeat Dhirren Rajarathinam of Hobart College, 3-2 (4-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-8, 13-11). The Bobcats' team captain followed that performance with a second five-game effort, outlasting Franklin & Marshall's Marco DiFilippo by scores of 11-13, 11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 11-5 in the consolation final.
The All-NESCAC First Team selection opened competition Friday with a 3-1 loss (7-11, 11-7, 6-11, 4-11) to Joe Smythe of Dickinson College in the Molloy East round of 16. Spiro survived to see Saturday action with a 3-0 sweep (11-6, 11-6, 11-6) of Vassar's Rithik Jalali in the quarterfinals of the consolation round.
A native of Portland, Ore., Spiro went 10-13Â on the season for the Bobcats (5-14) while playing the best-of-the-best in collegiate squash at the No. 1 position in the lineup.Â
