PHILADELPHIA -- Bates men's squash junior Alec Spiro advanced to the Molloy East consolation round semifinals after splitting a pair of decisions Friday on day one of the College Squash Association Individual Championships.

The All-NESCAC First Team selection opened the day with a 3-1 loss (7-11, 11-7, 6-11, 4-11) to Joe Smythe of Dickinson College in the Molloy East round of 16. Spiro survived to see Saturday action with a 3-0 sweep (11-6, 11-6, 11-6) of Vassar's Rithik Jalali in the quarterfinals of the consolation round.

Spiro will now match up vs. Dhirren Rajarathinam of Hobart College Saturday morning at 11:40 a.m.
